Frequently asked questions

Should we come to couples counselling together or separately?

Couples counselling is normally with both partners present. Some couples find an individual session first helpful, but the therapeutic work happens in joint sessions. Your therapist will discuss the best format with you at the start.

What if my partner does not want to come?

Individual counselling can still be valuable, even if your partner is not ready. Many people find that working on themselves shifts the dynamic of the relationship. We can help with either approach.

How long does couples counselling typically take?

Most couples find six to twelve sessions are enough to work through a specific issue. Longer-term work is possible if needed. Sessions are usually weekly or fortnightly.

Do you work with same-sex couples and non-traditional relationships?

Yes. Our therapists work with couples of all genders, sexualities, and relationship structures, including LGBTQ+ couples and non-monogamous relationships. You will be welcomed without judgement.
